News & Events

Each July, we host students from the Bowdoin International Music Festival for a free public concert in our sanctuary.

The performance is followed by a reception to meet the musicians.  This year’s concert will take place on July 26th at 2:00 PM.

Nancy Coffin & Howard Bliss have been recognized as extraordinary volunteers!

Nancy Coffin received the “2018 Executive Director’s Award” from Habitat for Humanity/7 Rivers Maine. The award is given to the volunteer who has consistently gone above and beyond to support Habitat. Nancy has walked in the annual Habitat Walk for years raising funds from many of her church and community friends.  Congratulations Nancy!

Howard Bliss is the “2018 Maine Volunteer of the Year” for his tireless work to prevent hunger.  Howie helped start what is now the Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program in the basement of a church 21 years ago. As the program grew over the years, he volunteered in every facet of the operation. Now, MCHPP handles 14,000 pounds of food donations and serves 6,000 meals each week. Every month volunteers donate 2400 hours so the agency can support 1000 families who do not have the means to purchase food. The number of lives Howard has impacted is countless.

Now Howard’s primary volunteer effort is in the food pantry. There he meets with clients, conducts intake interviews to establish eligibility, and documents the service they receive. Those who serve with him are impressed by his compassion and the way he listens to each person’s story. It is unique ability to provide each client hope that sets Howard apart. His actions encourage those around him to perceive others in a more positive light and promote a sense of community and interconnectedness.  Congratulations Howie!
